About Wood Furniture

Close-up of a textured brown wooden surface showcasing natural patterns and grain details.

We work with two types of oak:

  • Solid French Oak
  • Oak Veneer Chipboard

They’re both beautiful. They’re both strong. But they behave differently — and knowing what you’re buying helps everyone sleep better at night.

Solid French Oak

This is the real deal — gorgeous, durable, and full of character. It’s also alive. Which means… sometimes it does whatever it wants.

What you need to know:

  • Cracks, warps, and movement can happen. Wood breathes with humidity and temperature, and no amount of stern talk will stop it.
  • We build with C-channels, expansion joints, and finish with three layers of varnish or a durable oil, but still — it’s wood, not plastic.
  • Grain, colour, and tone variation are part of the charm. You might spot knots, shifts between sapwood and heartwood, or the occasional “what is that?” It’s all real.
  • We don’t mass-produce, so you may see a little wood filler here or there. That’s the handmade touch.

Oak Veneer Chipboard

This is real oak too — just sliced fine and laid over a stable core. It’s great for pieces where you want the oak look, but not the full weight or movement of solid timber.

What to expect:

  • It’s strong, but not indestructible — that veneer layer is thin, so scratches and dings can’t be sanded out like solid wood. Not great for high-traffic surfaces.
  • Can be a more consistent in look, but not always — fewer surprises, less drama. Great for cabinetry or anything that needs to behave.
  • Not great for high moisture areas like bathroom counters.
